About 30 years ago, I bought these huge speakers for $500 (huge speakers were all the rage at the time). Until now, I've only rated books and cds, but I thought I would take time to express my opinion on this rather remarkable product. I bought two - one for home and one for the office. Now I won't say that these speakers - which are less than one-tenth the size, weight and price - are as good, but they're not much worse either.Highly recommended for listening to music through a computer or any sort of portable player, and it won't to put a dent in your wallet. For thirty something bucks you get speakers with surprising crisp sound and high volume capacity. Attach it to your home or office computer, or directly to your portable cd player, ipod, etc.
I want to keep them so I've requested a like for like replacement, but it's unfortunate that JBL sticks to their standard protocol - to make every other item they manufacture faulty in some respect. I tried several different outputs, different computers, directly from my iphone, yet sound only comes out of one speaker. Sound comes out of one speaker only.
I purchased a cheap-y pair of speakers at radio shack some 2 years ago, and the wiring started to go on them. time to replace the cheap-y's and upgrade to the slightly more JBL's. I own other JBL products and I'm quite pleased with them, however I've noticed that I always have to get a replacement due to dents or defects with JBL's product - these speakers are no exception.
Well, I go to play them and guess what. Great product, but too bad for the lack on consistent quality. The sound would only come out of one speaker unless you fiddle around with the cord.

They work great and I am very happy with my purchase. I bought these for my PC at home and they work perfectly, Maybe some of these other reviewers have problems specific to their applications. Mine were slightly used, I could tell the way the cords were bundled, but they stated they may be " slightly" used when I bought them.
Speaker is light and feels like cheap plastic. There are two easy to use knobs for volume and treble (if i remember correctly). JBL Duet PC Speakers (2-SpeakerS, Aluminum)I bought this speaker from Amazon. I will review the JBL duet and compare it against the Logitech one.The JBL speaker sounds great. On Logitech X-140. The speaker comes with a power converter that require extra space on my extension cord. On the other hand, Logitech X-140 combines the converter into the speaker itself so no extra bulky converter.2.
There is nothing besides the volume know that doubles as power switch on the speakers. It is a bad design.3.
Even though I am only a casual gamer and listen only to online classical music, I can tell the sound quality is pretty good on this speaker.However, this speaker has 3 things I find that made it lose 3 stars.1. Oftentimes, I need to use both hands to get enough grip on it to turn it on and off.
I thought about buying the logitech x-140 2.0 Speaker Logitech X-140 2.0 Speakers. The front knob that adjusts the volume is very hard to turn with just two fingers.
And 1 audio out for headphones and one in for microphones.Overall, X-140 is definitely a better buy at 29.99 than JBL Duet at 41.99. No question about it.
It is the biggest one among all my PC components now.
The only reason I didn't give five stars: I bought two pairs of these speakers and one set already had a speaker malfunction. If you want great sound and don't want to wake the neighbors, roommates, family, etc. Hey, what can I say, they sound very good for desktop situations. Amazon has an awesome return/exchange policy so that makes me feel at ease when I shop through amazon.com. Then do yourself a favor and scoop these up at the discounted price. These are not very powerful so you can get great sound in one room tops, and for the money what more can you expect. Forget an iPod dock, these sound way better than anything I've heard from docks around $100-150.
